The Other Foundation: Community Grants

Creating a new model of local philanthropy

I started the Other Foundation with the goal of making philanthropy more accessible, transparent, and community-driven. The Other Foundation is a collective of individuals who each contribute $100 per month to support community-led initiatives in the Birmingham metro
area.

The Other Foundation operates as a giving circle, not a registered nonprofit organization. It intentionally remains independent to maintain flexibility in its grantmaking, including the ability to fund individuals directly. Members vote monthly to determine which applicants receive funding. Several grants in the range of $1,000-$3,000 are awarded each month.
